Why it matters

A 13,238-square-foot store is likely to be tightly curated. For suppliers, this is an early account-access opportunity—but not a broad authorization assumption.

What changed

MOM’s Organic Market will reportedly open its first Connecticut store in Stamford in 2027. The retailer is expected to lease 13,238 square feet in part of a former Fairway Market at 689–699 Canal Street.

The Stamford plan follows MOM’s October opening in Mount Prospect, Illinois, and continues the chain’s movement beyond its Mid-Atlantic base.

The smaller footprint and MOM’s strict ingredient standards suggest that category relevance, local demand and assortment discipline will matter more than a broad SKU presentation.

What it changes for sellers

A new state creates an early window

Regional brands with Connecticut and New York demand evidence have a reason to approach the category team before opening orders are locked.

Compact stores require focus

A smaller box usually means fewer duplicative items and greater pressure to show a precise assortment role.

Standards remain the first gate

MOM’s evaluates ingredients and gives preference to organic products and responsible sourcing; brands should qualify before investing in the pitch.

Next move

What to do now

  1. 1

Review MOM’s ingredient standards and vendor application before contacting the buyer.

  2. 2

Bring Connecticut/New York demand, distribution readiness and a local activation plan.

  3. 3

Ask whether Stamford buying will follow existing centralized assortment or include a local opening set.

Source note

The lease and opening plan were reported through the property broker and local media. MOM’s has not yet posted a full corporate opening announcement.
