Why it matters

This is a practical natural-to-conventional growth case: the brand changed the product economics and supply system before asking the market to support substantially more doors.

What changed

Indoor-grown berry company Oishii announced distribution at 78 Walmart stores, 84 Fresh Market stores and 30 Giant Food stores, plus 34 additional Sprouts locations. The company says it will reach more than 500 U.S. retail locations across 25 states by year-end.

Oishii’s Sprouts presence grows from 20 to 65 locations. Its Premium Grade Nikko Berry uses a 7.5-ounce pack with a $7.99 suggested price and new top-seal packaging that the company says extends shelf life by 33%.

The brand also reports increasing Nikko Berry production by 282% during 2026. Price, packaging, shelf life and production—not only buyer interest—appear to be the scale gates behind the expansion.

What it changes for sellers

Premium needs an accessible rung

A broader retail audience often requires a pack and price point that can recruit shoppers without abandoning the brand’s premium proposition.

Shelf life defines the possible map

For refrigerated and fresh products, usable days at receipt determine freight radius, distributor fit, shrink and retailer willingness to expand.

Capacity must precede authorization

Production yield, pack-out, quality control and replenishment capacity need to scale before a brand treats new doors as sustainable distribution.

Next move

What to do now

  1. 1

Define the price, shelf-life, case-pack, yield and freight thresholds required for the next account tier.

  2. 2

Show buyers how operational changes reduce shrink and improve in-stock performance.

  3. 3

Build expansion forecasts from sellable capacity and replenishment frequency—not authorized door count alone.
